The City of Wrenford is opening applications for the Housing Accelerator Fund today, November 1, 2023. This new grant program is designed to help developers, non-profit groups, and housing co-ops build more homes across the city. You can submit your application online or in person at Wrenford City Hall.
The Housing Accelerator Fund provides grants of up to $500,000 per project. The money will help cover costs like site preparation, engineering studies, and upfront development fees. The City is focusing on projects that add missing middle housing, purpose-built rentals, and non-market housing to our community. This initiative supports the City's goal of building 1,200 new homes over the next five years.
"We know that housing is a top priority for our residents," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "This fund removes financial barriers so we can build the homes our community needs. We are excited to see how developers and community groups will use these grants to make Wrenford a more affordable place to live."
To qualify for the fund, your project must follow the City's Official Plan and Zoning By-law 2016-040. Projects that include green building features or accessible design will receive extra points during the review process. You will also need to show that you have secured the necessary building permits and that your project is ready to break ground within 18 months of receiving funding.
You can apply through the Wrenford ePermits portal or pick up a paper form at the Service Wrenford counter. The deadline to submit your application is December 15, 2023. A review committee made up of City planners and community members will score all submissions and announce the winners in early 2024.
