Heritage property maintenance grants
You can apply for financial assistance to help cover the costs of maintaining, restoring, or repairing your designated heritage property. This grant program supports the preservation of Wrenford’s unique historical character by ensuring that heritage buildings remain safe, structurally sound, and visually appealing.
Who can apply
You are eligible to apply if you own a property that is officially designated as heritage under the City’s heritage by-law. The property must be located within the City of Wrenford boundaries. This includes homes, commercial buildings, and other structures that have been recognized for their historical, architectural, or cultural significance.
What is covered
The grant provides partial funding for eligible repairs and restoration work. Covered expenses may include:
- Structural repairs to foundations, roofs, or load-bearing walls
- Restoration of original features such as windows, doors, mouldings, or facades
- Exterior painting using historically appropriate colours and materials
- Repair or replacement of heritage-specific elements like brickwork or stonework
General maintenance, such as routine cleaning or non-heritage specific updates, is not covered. You must use qualified contractors who have experience working with heritage properties.
How to apply
To apply, you must submit a completed application form along with supporting documentation. This includes detailed quotes from licensed contractors, photographs of the current condition, and a brief description of the proposed work. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to available funding.
You can download the application form from the Grants page. If you need help with the application, contact the Heritage Planning Department at [email protected] or call 519-555-0100.
Important dates
Applications for the current fiscal year are accepted until March 31, 2027. Decisions will be communicated within six weeks of the application deadline. Please note that grant funds are limited and may be exhausted before the deadline.
