Bring your harvest baskets and gloves to Centennial Gardens for the Community Garden Harvest Workshop. This free session is designed for gardeners and families who want to learn how to properly pick, store, and preserve seasonal vegetables and herbs. Whether you have a backyard plot or rent a space at a community garden, you will walk away with practical tips to make the most of your growing season.
Our Parks Planner will lead the group through a short tour of the formal gardens, followed by a hands-on demonstration on harvesting techniques. We will cover the best times to pick crops for maximum flavour, how to tell when produce is ready, and simple storage methods that keep food fresh longer. Bring a few items from your own garden so we can practice sorting and prepping them on-site.
Registration is required so we can prepare enough materials for every participant. Reserve your spot online through the City Services page, or call 519-555-0100. Space is limited to 30 people, so sign up early.
The event is fully accessible. Centennial Gardens has paved pathways and level ground suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. If you need accommodation to participate, please mention it when you register. We will provide light refreshments made from local produce.
Please meet at the cenotaph in Centennial Gardens by 2:00 p.m. on September 19. The workshop will wrap up by 4:00 p.m. Bring pruning shears, mesh bags for harvest, and water. We will have extra gloves and trowels available if you forget yours.
