Participate in community planning

How you can get involved in shaping Wrenford's future through official plan updates, zoning changes, and local area plans.

Get involved in shaping Wrenford

When the City plans for the future, we need your voice. Under the Planning Act and the Municipal Act, 2001, we are required to consult the public on major changes. Whether it is updating the Official Plan, changing how land is used under Zoning By-law 2016-040, or improving a specific neighbourhood, you have a chance to share your ideas. Community planning helps us make decisions that work for everyone, protect our environment, and build stronger communities.

How we work with you

We follow a clear, five-step process for all major planning projects. This ensures we listen carefully and make thoughtful choices.

  • Discover: We research the area, talk to neighbours, and look at data to understand the current situation.
  • Envision: We share what we have learned and ask you what you want Wrenford to look like in the future.
  • Explore: We present draft options and ask for your feedback on where growth or changes should happen.
  • Refine: We review all your comments, adjust the plan, and confirm what we will recommend to Council.
  • Decide: We present the final proposal to the Planning and Environment Committee and City Council for a vote.

Our promise to you

We use the IAP2 Public Participation Spectrum to guide every engagement project. Our goal is to:

  • Inform: Give you clear, timely information so you know what we are doing and why.
  • Consult: Ask for your feedback and let you know how we used your input.
  • Involve: Work closely with you to make sure your concerns are understood and considered.
  • Collaborate: Partner with you on each aspect of the decision, including how to solve problems.
  • Empower: Give you the final say in key decisions.

We always aim to include voices from all neighbourhoods, including youth, seniors, and newcomers. We remove barriers to access and make sure materials are easy to read.

Ways to participate

There are many ways to share your thoughts on planning matters in Wrenford:

  • Online surveys and maps: Share ideas and mark locations on interactive maps through our Public Notices portal.
  • Public workshops and open houses: Drop in to meet planners, view diagrams, and talk face-to-face.
  • Public hearings and committee meetings: Attend a Planning and Environment Committee or City Council meeting to speak during public comment periods. Meetings are held at Wrenford City Hall and are livestreamed.
  • Committee of Adjustment: If a property owner is asking for a minor variance, the Committee of Adjustment meets on the third Wednesday of each month to hear objections or support.

What happens to your feedback

Every comment you submit is recorded securely. We review all feedback and group it by theme. You will see a summary of what we heard in a report before the final decision is made. Your personal contact information is kept private, and we only share the overall themes and suggestions with the public.
