Recreation facility grants

Funding available for not-for-profit organizations to improve and maintain community recreation facilities in Wrenford.

About the grant

The Wrenford Recreation Facility Enhancement Grant provides funding to not-for-profit organizations that run sport, fitness, and community programmes. We want to make sure our local facilities are safe, accessible, and ready for year-round use. If your group operates out of a City-owned or leased space, this grant can help cover the costs of upgrades that the City does not normally pay for.

Who can apply

Any registered not-for-profit organization that holds a community centre room booking or leases space in a Wrenford recreation facility can apply. You must be in good standing with your current facility agreements. Individual residents cannot apply, but you can partner with a local club or association to submit a joint application.

What we fund

We focus on projects that improve the building itself, not the programmes you run inside it. Eligible expenses include safety upgrades, accessibility retrofits, energy-efficient improvements, and equipment that stays with the facility. We do not fund programme costs, staff salaries, or general maintenance like snow removal or cleaning.

Funding is split into two streams based on your total project cost.

Minor Stream

  • Up to $15,000 per project
  • Best for smaller updates like replacing worn flooring, upgrading lighting in a gymnasium, or buying multi-purpose storage units
  • Projects must be completed within twelve months of approval

Major Stream

  • Up to $40,000 per project
  • Best for larger renovations, including wheelchair ramp installation, changing room modernization, or green technology retrofits
  • Projects must be completed within eighteen months of approval

How to apply

We accept applications online through the the online grants portal. You will need to create a free account and upload a completed project outline, a detailed budget, and a timeline. Please do not send paper forms or email attachments.

We review applications twice a year. The Spring intake closes on April 30, and the Fall intake closes on October 31. You can submit your application at any time before the deadline, but we will not review it until the window closes. If you need help with the online form, drop by our intake desk or call us.

Reporting requirements

When your project is finished, you must submit a final report within ninety days. The report should include a summary of the work, a final budget breakdown, and a few photos of the completed space. We also ask that you tag the City on your social media posts so we can share your success with the community. If you cannot finish on time, email us before the deadline to request a short extension.
