Why this programme exists
Wrenford sits along the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek. In 2005, heavy rain caused flooding along Riverside Flats. Since then, the City has invested in berms, flood-mitigation programmes, and stormwater upgrades. We also know that individual properties can play a big role in keeping water moving away from buildings. This funding programme helps you make those improvements yourself.
What is covered
The programme pays for upgrades that stop water from entering your home or business, or that keep rainwater from overwhelming local drains. Eligible projects include:
- Backwater valves on basement plumbing lines
- Sump pump discharge upgrades and battery backups
- Property grading and drainage swales that direct water away from the foundation
- Rain gardens and dry wells for roof runoff
- Downspout disconnection from weeping tile systems
- Permeable paving for driveways and walkways
Who can apply
Homeowners, landlords, and businesses located within the City of Wrenford can apply. Non-profit community groups can also apply if the project benefits the public. You must be the current property owner or have written permission from the owner to apply.
How much funding is available
| Applicant type | Maximum grant amount |
|---|---|
| Residential | $7,500.00 |
| Commercial or industrial | $20,000.00 |
| Non-profit community group | $10,000.00 |
The City pays the grant directly to the licensed contractor. You cover any costs that exceed the maximum amount.
How to apply
- Review the by-law information and the property standards to make sure your plan meets City requirements.
- Complete the Flood Mitigation Application Form and attach a detailed quote from a licensed contractor.
- Submit your application to the Planning & Development team. You can mail it to Room 302, Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1, or email it to [email protected].
- Wait for review. Standard processing takes four to six weeks. The City may arrange a site visit to check your property's drainage conditions.
- Once approved, schedule your work. The contractor must provide proof of insurance and a final inspection report before the grant is paid.
Important rules
Work must be completed within twelve months of approval. If you change contractors, you must tell the City in writing. Any work that does not follow the approved plan or the Water and Wastewater By-law 2017-090 will not be funded. You must keep all invoices and receipts for three years.
For property located near the Tamsin River or Corvid Creek, you may also need a shoreline or floodplain permit from the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority. The City can help you find their application forms, but they do not issue grants through this programme.
