Benchlands Community Fridge Initiative

A volunteer-run program that maintains a community fridge for sharing food without stigma.

The Benchlands Community Fridge Initiative maintains and stocks a community fridge where anyone can leave or take food without stigma. This volunteer-run program helps neighbours support each other by sharing fresh groceries, pantry staples, and prepared meals. Whether you have extra food from your garden or just want to help out, there is a place for you.

Volunteers manage the fridge through ongoing shifts. You can sign up to stock the shelves, sort donations, or keep the space clean. The initiative relies on the dedication of volunteer coordinators and generous donors who bring in items each week. All activities are completely free.

To join a shift or arrange a donation drop-off, contact the City's community development office at [email protected]. You will get the current sign-up schedule and instructions on what items are most needed. Help keep the fridge full and make sure no one in the Benchlands neighbourhood goes hungry.
