Ambrel Lake water quality test

The City of Wrenford monitors Ambrel Lake regularly during the swimming season to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. These monthly tests measure bacterial levels to determine if the water is safe for recreational contact. The results for the 2020 season are published below for your review.

2020 Monitoring Results

All samples were collected in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks guidelines. The following table outlines the Escherichia coli (E. coli) concentrations found during each monthly visit.

Date Sample Location E. coli (CFU/100mL) Status
June 15, 2020 Main Beach 45 Good
July 13, 2020 Main Beach 62 Good
August 10, 2020 Main Beach 110 Marginal
September 7, 2020 Main Beach 38 Good

What the Results Mean

Water quality is classified based on E. coli levels. A "Good" rating indicates low risk. A "Marginal" rating suggests moderate risk, and a "Poor" rating requires immediate advisories. In August 2020, elevated levels were recorded due to recent heavy rainfall, which can wash runoff into the lake. No boil water advisory information was required for the lake, as it is not a drinking water source.

Protecting Our Waters

Residents play a key role in maintaining water quality. Please ensure you are following all stormwater management and drainage guidelines. Avoid dumping oils, chemicals, or excess fertilizers into storm drains or onto the ground near the lake. These substances can flow directly into Ambrel Lake and harm aquatic life.

If you notice unusual discolouration, odours, or debris in the water, please report a water leak or environmental concern to our service line at Wrenford 311. For more information on how we manage wastewater, see managing wastewater for businesses.
