Request a street name change

How to apply for a street name change in Wrenford, what documents you need, and what happens after you submit your request.

How to apply

If you need a street name changed because of address confusion, safety concerns, or a new development, you can submit a request through the Roads & Winter Maintenance team. To start the process, please provide the following:

  • A letter explaining the reason for the name change, the current street name, and the name you would like to use.
  • A map of the area that will be affected by the proposed change.
  • The application fee of $150.00.

You can drop these documents at the Roads & Winter Maintenance desk or email them to [email protected].

What happens next

Once we receive your application, the Roads & Winter Maintenance team will review it and circulate it to the appropriate ward councillor and relevant agencies. These agencies include emergency services, the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority, and Tamsin Valley Public Health. A letter will be sent to every property owner whose address will be affected by the change.

Administration will make a recommendation to City Council. Before Council makes a decision, we will post a sign at the site and advertise the proposal in a local newspaper for two consecutive weeks. You will be able to view all related documents at the City Clerk's Office starting the day the first advertisement appears.

If Council approves the change, the new name is added to the city's official addressing database and all affected residents receive a notice with updated mailing materials.
