Property tax exemption information
The City of Wrenford recognizes the valuable work done by non-profit and charitable organizations. We grant property tax exemptions to eligible groups so they can keep their focus on serving our community. An exemption is available when a property is used for a public or charitable purpose that benefits society, in accordance with the provincial Assessment Act.
Who is eligible?
Property tax exemptions in Wrenford are generally available to non-profit organizations, religious bodies, and certain charitable groups. Eligible types of organizations include:
- Religious bodies and places of worship

Frequently asked questions
Do I still have to pay my property taxes while my application is being reviewed?
Yes. All applicable property taxes must be paid on time until your exemption is officially approved. If your application is approved, the City will backdate your exemption to the start of the taxation year and issue a refund for any taxes already paid.
Will my property still be assessed every year?
Yes. The City assesses all properties annually, regardless of tax-exempt status. Your assessment notice will simply note that the property is exempt from taxation.
I am a tenant or lessee. Can I apply for an exemption?
Yes, a tenant can apply if the property meets the eligibility criteria. However, you must speak with your landlord about how the tax savings will be handled, as the exemption is granted to the property owner. If approved, the landlord will receive the refund or reduced tax bill.
I am moving my exempt organization to a new address. What do I do?
Relocating requires a full New Application. Please submit the application form and all supporting documents for the new address before September 30.
