What you can do
You can use our planning tools to check if a property is allowed for a certain use, apply for a building permit or request a minor variance. The City also posts all development applications so you can see what is being proposed in your area.
- Check the Official Plan to see the long-term vision for your neighbourhood.
- Review the Zoning By-law to find out what you can build on a specific lot.
- Apply for a development permit or a building permit through Planning & Development.
- Attend a Committee of Adjustment meeting to hear decisions on minor variances and consents.
How planning works
The City of Wrenford guides how our city grows through the Official Plan and our Zoning By-law 2016-040. These documents set out where homes, businesses, parks and schools can go, and how tall buildings can be. They make sure new development matches our infrastructure, like roads, water and transit.
Fees and rules
Development in Wrenford must follow the Planning Act and the Municipal Act, 2001. The Committee of Adjustment meets on the third Wednesday of each month at City Hall to review minor variance requests. Applications must be submitted at least thirty days before the meeting date. All decisions are recorded and posted on the Public Notices page.
Planning application fees are set out in the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151. Fees cover the cost of reviewing plans, checking Engineering Standards and consulting with utility providers. You can view the current fee schedule on the Development Applications page. Late or incomplete applications may be returned, which can delay your project and require a new fee payment.
