Reports and decisions

The Planning and Environment Committee met on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The session covered park programming, upcoming seasonal events and development applications across the city.

The committee reviewed several items relating to parks, community gardens and development applications:

  • Centennial Gardens community garden plots (2025 season): The committee approved the allocation process for the 2025 season. Registration for plots will open in March. Residents can reserve their space and must follow the seasonal guidelines. This ensures fair access for local gardeners and keeps the plots well-maintained. Carried.
  • Ambrel Lake Park fall cleanup: The committee endorsed the volunteer cleanup initiative starting September 5. The City will provide signage and park access notices for the day. Volunteers can help remove debris and prepare the area for winter. Carried.
  • Site plan application (45 Ambrel Lake Road): The committee received and filed the staff report on the application. The site plan review focuses on landscaping, building setbacks and access routes. Carried.
  • Zoning amendment (45 Mercer Street): The committee reviewed the proposed amendment for a mixed-use building and recommended it proceed to City Council. The amendment would allow residential units above ground-floor commercial space. Carried.
  • Heritage designation (12 Mercer Street): The committee approved the scheduling of a public hearing for the heritage designation. This step protects the building's historical features and allows the community to share feedback. Carried.

By-laws

No by-laws were passed. The committee recommends by-laws to City Council, which makes the final decision.

Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m. Members reviewed the agenda items and made their decisions. You can view the full meeting minutes on the Planning & Development page once they are finalized.
