Heritage Advisory Committee meetings 2024

Heritage Advisory Committee reviews Centennial Gardens planting day, approves two heritage grants, and advises on a building alteration permit.

Heritage Advisory Committee meeting, April 18, 2024

Attendance

The meeting started at 5:30 p.m. in Committee Room 2, Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street. Present were the Chair, a resident member, Councillor Helen Marchetti for Ward 6, and five other resident members. The City's Heritage Planner attended to support the committee.

Delegations

A resident from the Old Mill neighbourhood shared concerns about the heritage fence at a nearby park. The committee listened and asked staff to add the fence condition to the upcoming heritage survey so you can track the changes.

Reports and Decisions

The committee reviewed three main items and made the following decisions:

  • Spring Maintenance at Centennial Gardens. The committee discussed the volunteer planting day on Saturday, April 27. Members agreed to promote the event in the community newsletter. Volunteers and staff will focus on historic plantings first. If you want to help, you can sign up through the City's event page.
  • Heritage Conservation Grant Applications. Two applications for the 2024 grant cycle were reviewed. The committee recommended approving both for façade restoration. A grant of $2,500.00 was recommended for a local business to repair historic windows.
  • Building Alteration Permits. The committee reviewed a proposed change to a heritage property on Mercer Street. Members advised the applicant to review Heritage Conservation By-law 2020-085 before submitting a final plan. Staff will schedule a pre-application meeting to guide you through the process.

By-laws

No by-laws were passed at this meeting. The committee continues to recommend changes to Council as needed.
