Find what you need
Whether you are opening a new shop, renovating a space, or managing daily operations, this page helps you stay compliant and get the support you need. Wrenford makes it simple to find licences, permits, inspections, and programs for your business.
Business licences
Almost every business operating in Wrenford needs a licence under the Business Licensing By-law 2021-033. You must renew your licence every year by June 30. The annual base fee is $150.00 for most small businesses, but fees change based on your industry and location.
You can apply or renew online through the Business Licences portal, or visit the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall. If you need help finding the right licence for your trade, talk to a Business Navigation officer.
Building permits and inspections
Before you build, renovate, or change the use of a property, you need a permit. This follows the Building Code Act, 1992 and the Ontario Building Code. The City checks that your plans meet safety standards for fire, structure, and energy use.
Submit your application through the Building Permits page. Our inspectors will visit the site at key stages to make sure the work matches your approved plans. You cannot use the building until the final inspection is passed.
Waste and recycling for businesses
Commercial waste collection is scheduled based on your neighbourhood and the type of business you run. You can also drop off bulky items, electronics, and hazardous waste at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility or the Northgate Drop-off Depot.
Check the Garbage & Recycling page for your collection calendar and rules on commercial bin sizes. If you need extra bins or a special pickup schedule, contact the City Services team.
Economic development and grants
The City wants your business to thrive. Our Economic Development team offers free advice on site selection, zoning, and growth strategies. We also run the Wrenford Business Growth Program, which provides up to $5,000.00 in grants for eligible local companies that create jobs or improve downtown spaces.
Visit the Economic Development page to view current funding rounds and attend a free monthly workshop.
By-law compliance and inspections
Running a business means following local rules. The City enforces by-laws around noise, parking, property standards, and safe public spaces. Our By-law Enforcement team responds to complaints and visits businesses to ensure everyone plays by the rules.
Most issues are resolved with a conversation and a warning. If a violation continues, the City may issue a fine under the relevant by-law. Check the By-law Enforcement page to see the full list of rules and appeal options.
