Why Wrenford offers financial incentives
Wrenford uses targeted financial incentives to grow the local economy, support housing, and improve neighbourhoods. These programs help reduce upfront costs for businesses, homeowners, and developers while making sure new growth pays for the infrastructure it needs.
Business and economic development
Whether you are opening a shop on Mercer Street or expanding a factory in Industrial Park East, these programs can lower your costs.
Wrenford Business Growth Grant
Approved businesses in the Downtown Wrenford BIA or designated growth areas can receive up to $15,000.00 for façade improvements, equipment upgrades, or hiring local staff. You must hold a valid business licence and apply through the online portal.
Development Charge Rebates
Under the Planning Act, the City can rebate development charges to encourage infill and intensification. If you build on a vacant lot within an existing neighbourhood or add a secondary suite, you may qualify for a rebate of up to 50 per cent of the applicable charge. This keeps housing costs down while making better use of existing roads and pipes.
Housing and homeowners
Wrenford wants to keep housing affordable and energy efficient for everyone.
Home Energy Upgrade Grant
Homeowners who install heat pumps, upgrade insulation, or replace windows with Energy Star certified products can claim back up to $3,000.00. The grant covers the cost of an independent energy audit and a portion of the installation. Applications are reviewed monthly by the Community Services department.
Rental Housing Rehabilitation Program
If you own a rental property in an older neighbourhood and bring it up to the Property Standards By-law 2019-112, you can apply for a low-interest loan to cover repairs. The City also offers a one-time $1,200.00 incentive if you guarantee affordable rents for five years.
Green infrastructure and sustainability
The City partners with property owners to manage stormwater and protect the Tamsin River.
Green Roof and Permeable Pavement Incentive
Developers and homeowners who install green roofs, rain gardens, or permeable paving to manage stormwater on site can receive a reduction in development charges or a direct grant of up to $10,000.00. This supports the climate adaptation strategy and reduces pressure on the wastewater system.
Electric Vehicle Charging Rebate
Businesses and multi-unit residential buildings that install Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations can apply for a rebate covering 40 per cent of the equipment and installation costs, up to $5,000.00 per station.
How to apply
Most programs require an online application through the Business or Community service portals. You will need to provide proof of ownership, quotes for the work, and a completed application form. Deadlines vary by program, but the City reviews applications on a rolling basis unless a specific call for proposals is announced.
