What is our Official Plan?
The City of Wrenford Official Plan is our city-wide guide for land use and growth. It shows how we will manage development, protect the environment, and build complete neighbourhoods over the next 30 years. Council adopted the current plan in 2018, with a major office consolidation update in 2025. We review the plan every five years to make sure it still fits our community's needs and responds to provincial rules under the Planning Act and local by-law requirements.
How the plan guides our growth
Our plan breaks the city down into clear areas so you know what can be built where. It focuses on three main goals:
- Building complete neighbourhoods with homes, shops, and services close together.
- Supporting a strong local economy with space for businesses and jobs.
- Protecting our natural environment, including the Tamsin River, Ambrel Lake, and our ravines.
Urban Structure Strategy
The Wrenford Urban Structure Strategy is a long-term map that shows how different parts of Wrenford will change. It looks at our existing neighbourhoods, like the Benchlands and Ambrel Lake, and plans for future growth in areas like Wildrye. This strategy makes sure that roads, water systems, parks, and schools are ready before new homes and businesses open.
Land use and zoning
The Official Plan sets the big picture for where housing, commercial spaces, and industrial areas can go. When a developer wants to change how a piece of land is used, they must follow the rules in our plan. If a project does not match the plan, they must apply for an amendment. Most minor changes to property boundaries or small building adjustments go through the Committee of Adjustment. If you are a developer or homeowner, you can start a project by visiting Development Applications.
Regional context
Wrenford works with neighbouring communities in Southwestern Ontario to manage growth. Our plan aligns with the provincial growth strategy for the region, making sure we share the responsibility for new housing and jobs. We also coordinate with the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority on floodplain management and with Tamsin Valley Public Health on community wellness.
Consultation and next steps
We hear from residents, business owners, and community groups when we update the plan. You can attend public meetings, submit feedback online, or read our consultation summaries. The plan covers housing, transportation, climate action, childcare, parks, and utilities. The next major review will happen in 2030.
