Why you need a parking lot licence

If you operate a commercial parking lot in Wrenford, you must hold a Business Licence. The City uses these licences to track lot usage, ensure safety standards are met, and plan for future parking infrastructure. All commercial parking facilities, whether attached to a shopping centre, office building, or standalone, must be licensed annually.

Licence categories and fees

Annual fees depend on the size of your lot and whether you provide electric vehicle charging. Fees are billed on January 1 and are due by December 31 of the current year.

Lot type Annual fee
Commercial parking lot with fewer than 60 stalls $150.00
Commercial parking lot with 60 or more stalls $400.00
Electric vehicle charging station add-on $75.00

Mixed-use facilities that include both commercial and residential stalls pay based on the number of commercial stalls only. Residential parking lots do not require a separate business licence.

Electric vehicle charging requirements

The City is updating its business licences to track electric vehicle charging infrastructure. If your lot has charging stations, you must verify them to receive the correct licence category. This helps us monitor charging options across Wrenford and apply for provincial or federal rebates on your behalf.

How to verify your charging stations

Submit a verification package to [email protected] by October 1 each year. Include the following:

  • A clear photo of each installed charging station.
  • A screenshot of the charging network portal showing active internet connectivity.
  • A completed Parking Lot Supplemental Information Form.
  • Your current business licence number.

Send the package with the subject line “Parking lot electric vehicle charging – Verification package”. You will receive a confirmation email within one week. You only need to submit this package again if you add, remove, or upgrade chargers.

How to apply or renew

You can apply for a new parking lot licence or renew an existing one through the Wrenford Business Portal. You may also visit the customer service counter at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1, or call 519-555-0100 for assistance.

Application steps

  1. Complete the Business Licence Application form online or in person.
  2. Upload or attach required documents, such as a site plan or proof of insurance.
  3. Pay the annual fee. We accept credit cards, e-transfers, or cash.
  4. Wait for a compliance check. By-law Enforcement officers may visit your lot to confirm stall counts and safety markings.
  5. Receive your licence within five business days after inspection approval.

Renewals are mailed or emailed in November. Pay before December 31 to avoid a 10 per cent late fee. You can also set up pre-authorized payment through the portal.

Compliance and inspections

Licensees must keep their lots clean, well-lit, and properly marked according to the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075. City officers may conduct routine inspections to verify compliance. If issues are found, you will receive a corrective action notice giving you 14 days for minor repairs or 30 days for larger changes.
