Appeal a business licence decision

The Wrenford Business Licence Appeal Board hears appeals when a business licence is denied, suspended, or fined. You have the right to ask for a review if you disagree with a decision made under the Business Licensing By-law 2021-033. The board is an independent group that reviews your case fairly and makes a final decision.

What you can appeal

  • A licence application that was turned down
  • A fine or order issued under the Business Licensing By-law 2021-033
  • A decision to suspend or cancel an existing licence

How to file an appeal

You must file your appeal within 30 calendar days of the decision notice. You can file online, by email, or by mail.

  • Filing fee: $175.00. The fee is non-refundable.
  • Appeal form: Download the Notice of Appeal form.
  • Where to send: Mail or deliver the form and payment to the City Clerk, Room 200, Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1. You can also email a scanned copy to [email protected].
  • Payment: Cheque or money order payable to the City of Wrenford. Credit card payments by phone are accepted at 519-555-0100.

The hearing process

Once your appeal is filed, the board will schedule a hearing within 45 days. You will receive a notice with the date, time, and location. Hearings are held at Council Chambers, City Hall, or virtually using Microsoft Teams.

  • Submit evidence: Send all photos, documents, and diagrams to the board and the City representative at least seven days before the hearing. Late evidence may not be accepted.
  • Board conduct: Do not contact board members about your case before the hearing. The board does not speak with City staff before the hearing either.
  • Hearing order: The City representative presents their case first. You and your witnesses speak next. The City gets a chance to respond. You get the final word. The board may ask questions at any time.
  • Adjournments: If you need to reschedule, request it in writing as soon as possible. The board only grants adjournments for urgent reasons.

The decision

The board meets in private after the hearing. You will receive a written decision with reasons within 30 days. The board can uphold your licence, deny it, or set new conditions. Their decision is final under the Municipal Act, 2001.
