Energy and building data

Report your commercial or multi-family building's energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and water data to the City of Wrenford.

Report your building data

You can report your commercial or multi-family building's energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and water data through the Wrenford Building Performance Programme. Reporting helps you track consumption, lower utility costs and meet the City's climate targets. You will also receive a free Building Performance Scorecard that shows how your building ranks against similar properties.

How to submit your report

Use two connected tools to report your data: ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager (ESPM) and the Wrenford Building Performance Reporting System (WBPRS). ESPM collects your energy and water information, and WBPRS verifies compliance and tracks your progress year over year.

Step 1: Upload your data to ESPM

Log in to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. Enter your building details, such as use type, year built and operating hours. Upload 12 consecutive months of whole-building energy data from the previous calendar year. Include all sources, including electricity, natural gas and district energy. If you have separate utility accounts for tenant spaces, you may need tenant consent to aggregate the data.

Step 2: Share your profile with the City

Log in to ESPM and share your building profile. Search for the username wrenford_energy and connect. This gives the City read-only access to verify your submission and prevents duplicate reporting requests.

Step 3: Complete the report in WBPRS

Log in to the Wrenford Building Performance Reporting System. Claim your building and fill out the annual reporting form. For large office and retail buildings over 9,300 square metres (100,000 square feet), you will also review performance standards and pay any applicable fees through the portal.

Step 4: Review and submit

Check your entries for accuracy. Submit the form through WBPRS. You will receive a compliance notification by email. Keep your submission confirmation and all utility bills for at least five years in case staff request a review.

Rules and deadlines

Under the Annual Energy and Emissions Limits By-law 2025-142, all commercial and multi-family residential buildings with a gross floor area of 4,600 square metres (50,000 square feet) or larger must report annually. The reporting window runs from May 1 to September 30, 2026. Use the Building Lookup Tool to find your unique building ID. If you need a deadline extension, contact us before September 30. Late submissions may be subject to staff review and possible penalties.
